Payment of Fines The court accepts payment by cash, check, money order or cashier's check. Checks and money orders may be payable to the West Memphis District Court and can also be sent through the mail. Please include the citation number on the check. Payments may also be made in person at the West Memphis District Court or online with debit/credit cards at the Arkansas Online Court Payment tab. Pleading Not Guilty If you wish to plead not guilty, you will have to do so in court on your assigned date and time. You will be given a scheduling order to appear and present your case. Public Defender appointments must be requested in court, or an attorney must be hired prior to your scheduled trial date.
Failure to Appear Failure to appear in court as you have promised will result in the following actions:
You will be charged with a failure to appear which is a misdemeanor and is punishable by a fine, jail or both
The court may notify the State Driver Control of your failure to appear resulting in suspension of your driving privileges or right to obtain a driver's license
Criminal Information Most criminal charges carry a mandatory court appearance. Some traffic violations also carry mandatory court appearances. Failure to appear in court on your scheduled court date will result in the issuance of a bench warrant for your arrest. At the arraignment, you will be asked to enter a plea of guilty, no contest or not guilty. If you enter a not guilty plea, the matter will be set for trial on a future court date. The judge will not allow any testimony or statements regarding the facts of the case at this time. Once a plea of guilty or no contest has been accepted by the judge, you may offer an explanation to the judge before sentencing. The judge will then render a decision about your case.
